STEP INSIDE THINKING ROUTINE

My Grade 4 EAL students used their imagination and explored "step inside" thinking routine. They had to choose a painting, a drawing or a photograph and "step inside the skin" of a person, a creature, problem or event. My EAL learners thought creatively about different perspectives and viewpoints and had to consider three questions:
  • What can the person or thing perceive?
  • What might the person or thing know about or believe?
  • What might the person or thing care about
Siwoo is a new member of our EAL team, however, she showed a great commitment and was very creative.
Bravo Siwoo!
Amanda became al beautiful Japanese lady and we learned about her thoughts and feelings.
Keep up the hard work, Amanda!

HOW WE ORGANIZE OURSELVES GRADE 2/3

My Grade 2/3 EAL students are having great time discussing food as a resource.

We learned about staple crops and created some riddles for the assembly.  We also were surprised to find out that cucumbers and tomatoes are fruits and potatoes are not roots.
Sak, Kelly, Sophia, Ichiru and other Grade 2/3 EAL students discovered lots of amazing facts while working on the "Parts of the Plants We Eat" activity on their IPADs.

Hard work in progress!!

HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES

While focusing on How We Express Ourselves theme my Grade 4 and my Grade 5 EAL learners are discussing various paintings. We are trying to decode the message of the art piece and learning about how artists express their feelings and ideas.
We learned about some amazing stories behind the paintings here and explored how artists communicate their thoughts and emotions through their works.

Story of ‘The Scream’

The Scream’
Edvard Munch is the creator of one of the most expensive paintings in the history of art. We are talking about ‘The Scream’! This particular painting has attracted many people, amazed even more, and scared a few. Do you want to know how the idea of creating this fabulous piece of art came to Edvard Munch? Let us see. The artist himself scribbled in his diary about how ‘The Scream’ actually came to his imaginations.

One fine evening, the artist was walking through the city roads. For a second, he stopped walking and looked at the skies. All he saw was the setting sun and clouds, which appeared in blood red color. There was also a faint creaking sound from under the city. According to him, the whole setting made him feel like the nature was screaming for something. Then, he went on to paint The Scream with blood red clouds and screaming backgrounds. Thus, the painting was born. There are four versions of this painting and a couple of them are a part of world famous art galleries and others a part of someone’s private collection.
